Movie Night VII: The Spinoff
Who| Wash and anyone who cares to join
What| Movie Night!
Where| The usual lounge
When| After Resistance Is Futile/An Eye For an Eye and the subsequent food fight
Warnings/Notes| None?
There's something to be said for a return to normality, though they're not really there yet. The food fight was a good way to decompress; now it's time to trot out the usual tradition of snacks and old cinema.
Chairs are arranged, blankets laid out, and the usual line of tables is piled high with standard movie snacks and drinks, though they're far less carefully arranged than usual. There are blank tables next to the spread, for those who wish to bring snacks to share. The usual poster is outside the door, with a summary of the movie, its MPAA rating, and the customary Movie night is neutral territory note. New this time is a handwritten note next to the summary that reads It's parody. It's supposed to be weird.
The movie tonight is Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

York might be forgiven for thinking for a moment that that was leveled at him, but no. A pair of big brown eyes has latched onto the creature on his shoulder, and soon the elf is making her way across the room to peer at her in wonder and delight.
"How sweet!"

He's going to need serious backup.
Pidge was looking forward to movie night this week. There'd been too much...too much everything really. Pain, fear, turmoil...emotions. Even if some of them had turned out for the better, she seriously needed some downtime.
And then she saw the notice, what movie it was he'd picked, and froze on the spot, before turning and bolting down the hall determination gleaming in her eyes. When she returns, it's with a large empty jar sporting a massive label in large block capitals that says QUOTE JAR.
"OK, here are the rules: If you've already seen this movie and you say a line before the character on screen does, you have to put some credits in the jar."
She is very serious about this.

Locus tips his head from where he's sitting on the couch, one eyebrow lifting.
"Is it being put to good use?"

The cruder humor, less so. Galahad's adventure in Castle Anthrax, for example.
But he's still present, dressed down and taking up a corner of the couch with a relatively open air. For Locus, at least. Before the movie, he's more than willing to chat with those lingering. Those paying particular attention might notice he's in a notably better mood than usual.
No reason for that, surely.

He leans up, kisses Locus' cheek, and settles in. After a moment or two of this he'll slide down to snug up against his side instead of, well, on him but right now? He wants his boyfriend couch, please and thank you.

It's her first real movie night, as well. A lot of faces that are familiar and yet not linger around the fringes, and she doesn't often keep still, wandering back and forth between sitting on the floor and sampling the snack table.

With a somewhat warmer (for her) smile and a wink, she popped the bite size treat into her mouth. Hopefully, Marjara had put more than one on her plate.

While others filtered in and set up shop before the movie started, she occupied herself by painting her toenails a dark purple. When a shadow crossed over her, she glanced up at the source.
"Pardone-moi, the light..."

"Haven't seen you around in a while," He comments. "I'd ask how things have been, but I think everyone's answer is going to be 'hectic' right about now."

Right now, he's taken up one end of a couch, full snack plate and drink ignored on the table beside him, and settled in. He's not getting up without good reason.

She shows up quietly, the blanket Wash had given her after Silent Horizon folded and slung over her shoulder as she slides a large box of cupcakes onto the communal snack table. The smaller box on top she picks up and makes her way to the sofa Wash had claimed as his own. Leaning against the back of the sofa she extends the small box over without a word.

Tucker looked at the poster, blinked once and headed inside. Something told him that it was going to have way, way less violence than he was used to. …He was probably going to fall asleep. Hopefully while leaning against someone attractive.
Moving to one of the chairs, he fell into it and propped his feet up on a table. Tucker leaned over and asked whoever was next to him, “So, what’s the body count in this movie, anyway?” What? That seemed like a totally legit question.

Marjara quirks an eyebrow at him, slightly incredulous. After all, the concept of 'movies' themselves was only introduced a few months ago. "I've never seen it before. Though there are knights," she adds, musing softly. "So there's bound to be some indiscriminate violence, if they're trying to for the real thing at all."

Zenyatta dims his forehead lights and sits off to the side, so he won't disturb other movie watchers when the lights go out.
no subject
So it's not a surprise when Locus, who spends most days still counting the exits of a room and calculating the threat level of everyone around him, turns his head slightly to eyeball Zenyatta where he hovers.

Marjara had entered just behind him, uncertain for a time how to address him before throwing caution to the wind. After encountering so many different sorts of people, so many unique individuals, does it matter what he is or what he looks like?
Of course it doesn't. She'll address him as she would anyone else, until the need for correction arises.

The movie. That...sure was a thing they all just watched. Granted, you can't expect good visual effects from anything before about the 2050's, but even accounting for that, she's unconvinced that "classic" is really the right word here. Maybe it's better if you see a screening where people aren't reciting the lines along with the characters, but she doubts it.
Paying more attention to her thoughts than the room--you don't have to be paying attention to grab soda cans--she almost bumps into someone. "Oops, sorry."

While he'd been familiar with the concept of a recorded story, he's not quite sure why humans felt the need to tell that story. He'd followed the progression of events just fine; he just couldn't figure out why it was happening in the first place. Not even the note on the sign at the door had prepared him.
So, after the movie ends, he turns to the nearest person who seems like they might be open to a question or two. "I don't get it - what was the point of that ending?"
