Movie Night VII: The Spinoff

Who| Wash and anyone who cares to join
What| Movie Night!
Where| The usual lounge
When| After Resistance Is Futile/An Eye For an Eye and the subsequent food fight
Warnings/Notes| None?

There's something to be said for a return to normality, though they're not really there yet. The food fight was a good way to decompress; now it's time to trot out the usual tradition of snacks and old cinema.

Chairs are arranged, blankets laid out, and the usual line of tables is piled high with standard movie snacks and drinks, though they're far less carefully arranged than usual. There are blank tables next to the spread, for those who wish to bring snacks to share. The usual poster is outside the door, with a summary of the movie, its MPAA rating, and the customary Movie night is neutral territory note. New this time is a handwritten note next to the summary that reads It's parody. It's supposed to be weird.

The movie tonight is Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

"I don't know. Blasto 5 seems like a lateral step to me." It's not better, it's just a different kind of awful.

"Wait, Blasto is our fault?"

Pause for a blink and a resigned realization about humanity's priorities.

"...You know what, I can't honestly claim to be surprised."

"It would actually be more surprising if the director was anything but human."

"There was always the possibility of a very disgruntled drell." Yeah, no, she doesn't really believe that either.

Having cleaned out the immediate area, Shepard dumps her armful of beer bottles into the trash, presumably to be broken down into their component atoms and recycled. "We actually have vids worth seeing, I promise."

"The last one wasn't terrible," he shrugs. Not what he'd call good strictly speaking - Dread Pirate Roberts/Wesley was an ass, Humperdinck needed to die, and Buttercup deserved better - but not terrible.

"Though someone did mention that there was one I should see. I think it was called Die Hard"

The title rings the faintest of bells in Shepard's mind. She couldn't tell him a thing about the plot, but she's at least vaguely aware it exists, unlike tonight's offering. "I've heard of that one. Action, I think."

"Well that, at least, I can get behind."

Not a particularly startling revelation considering he seems to have modeled his life after the 'loose cannon cop' trope.

"Want to watch it some time?"

"Sure." She agrees to the plan with a smile and a nod. "If it sucks we can quit halfway and go shoot stuff."

Shepard is a simple soul.

"I was going to say that there's always alcohol, but I'm liking your plan better."

There's a reason they get along.
