Paging Doctor Funtimes...
Who| Closed to Dipper and Mabel
What| Mabel gets a personal wake up call.
Where| Medbay
When| N/A
Warnings/Notes| N/A
He was wandering around Legion World when the message came, doing what he'd been doing since he got here: recording things. He already had a few new "Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained" videos recorded about aliens that he was very proud of. And he was also still poking his nose into basically everything.
His omnicom beeped and when he pulled it out, Dr. Gym'll appeared on the screen.
"Mr. Pines, a word?"
"Uh, sure. Did you want me to come to the Medbay for more scans of my powers?"
"No no, we have enough. We're going to give them to Umbra and Kid Quantum to see if they can help you with your powers. No, it's just we picked up a new displacee on the planet and we thought you might want to know."
"Why?"
"She looks quite a bit like you and when we scanned her, she was a very close genetic matc -- Mr. Pines?"
Dipper didn't even let him finish, he clicked the message off and started to fly as fast as his flight ring would carry him towards the Medbay, feeling --
He didn't even know what he was feeling right now.
A little bit of worry? Yes, that was definitely there. That planet was horrible and he himself hadn't just collapsed -- he'd had to spend a little extra time in the Medbay because he hit his head on a rock as he went down. He still had a little bald patch from where they'd shaved his head to work on it and fix it up, even though the advanced medical tech hadn't left any stitches.
Relief was in there, too. This place was strange and unfamiliar and it was so amazing in so many ways, and so much less scary than some of his adventures in Gravity Falls, but still... still something that he was a little afraid to face alone. So knowing that she was here? She was here and he wasn't alone? Was such a relief! Especially after Weirdmageddon. Everything that'd happened made it so he just really, really didn't want to be apart from his sister right now.
But it wasn't just those two things either: there was also some pure unadulterated joy. This was such an amazing place and it seemed like it was going to be such an amazing adventure! Even his parents and friends and Grunkle Stan and Great Uncle Ford wouldn't worry because the scientists were pretty sure no time would pass back home while he was here. But it still wasn't perfect. Because he hated the idea that she'd miss out, and the way to make it perfect for him was if he got to share it with --
"Mabel!" he cried out when he finally found her room after looking around the Medbay frantically for the sight of long brown hair. Dr. Gym'll was still in the room with her.
"Is she okay?!" Dipper fretted. She had an IV hooked up with one of those fancy cuffs that you didn't even feel the needle stick with, and a nasal cannula for oxygen like he'd had...but what if something else was wrong the he couldn't see?
What if she was dying?!
"She's not hurt, is she? I mean more hurt. Than most of us were. She's not more hurt? Please tell me she's not more hurt--"
"She's fine, Mr. Pines," said Dr. Gym'll. "Just suffering from the atmospheric conditions and radiation the same as all the rest of you were. She's already cleared most of the toxins from her system, even. She's completely stable and will probably wake up within the hour."
Dipper breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Now, I have other patients to see, so why don't you keep her company so someone's here when she wakes up?"
Dipper started crawling into the chair next to her bed before the doctor had even finished the sentence, scooting it right up to her bedside.
It still felt too low next to the floating Medbay bed, so he just huffed and stood on the chair to climb onto the bed with her, kicking off his boots near the foot of her bed, and sitting criss cross applesauce next to her on it. Reaching a hand out he gently poked her nose to see if that woke her up but nope.
So he pulled out one of his notebooks and pens and started to read through the notebook again. He'd kept notes on everything to share with her and Great Uncle Ford when he saw them again, and he'd already filled quite a few pages with scribbles and drawings of aliens and cool space stuff.
He had to decide what to show her first and there was a lot to choose from.
"No. Nope. No. Not cool enough, definitely not cool enough," he muttered to himself, clicking the pen. "Pooossibly cool enough. Okay, she'll love that..."

Her worry over her brother was pretty short lived, though. She could hear him clicking his pen, and when she actually took a moment to focus on what was around her, she could see him sitting there at the end of her bed, his nose in a notebook, pen in hand.
It also became abundantly clear that hospital wasn't really the right word for the place she found herself in. It was more advanced than the hospital on prime time's hit medical drama McDream, MD. Actually, it was more in line with Moon Trekkers or some other SciFi show. Which would be unbelievable if her summer had been normal in any capacity.
"Dipper?" She thought maybe she hit her head or something because the whole situation was a little on the strange side. Not Weirdmageddon strange, but still. Did they somehow end up in the future again? That didn't really seem right. The future they'd visited tended to want them dead or imprisoned, and Dipper wasn't enough of a nervous wreck for it to be that.
Was this some other, last ditch weirdness that Gravity Falls decided to throw their way? Maybe, but she wasn't too worried, because the Pines twins had each other. They'd figure whatever this was out, and they'd do it in style.
With how focused Dipper was on his notebook, Mabel was pretty sure he was already putting ideas together. He might even have some answers already!
"Where the heck are we, bro bro?"

"Mabel!" Dipper tossed down his notebook and pen without another thought and crawled up towards her head so that he was right in her field of vision. He wanted her to focus on him first before she took in all the weirdness so he could try to reassure her.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," he said calmly, taking her hand and holding it gently in his own without even thinking about it.
Ever logical, he figured he'd give her the most important -- and most calming -- information first.
...In a numbered list. Because that was how Dipper rolled.
"First thing's first: we're safe. Okay? We're safe where we are right now. Second thing: this isn't Bill or end-of-the-world related. It's new weirdness. Definitely new weirdness. And third: you're going to be fine. So deep breaths. You breathed in lots of really gross stuff down on the planet. Try to take some deep breaths first and then I promise I'll explain everything."
He didn't want her getting all panic-ey. Even though she was awake, he knew from experience that everyone felt a little woozy and short of breath at first. Some people even needed a few days of recovery time. So he wanted to try to get her calm and breathing okay and comfortable before getting into everything.
He even took in some loud deep breaths himself to try to get her to breathe in time with him.
Don't worry, Mabel, bro bro is here. It'll all be okay.

She took a few deep breaths and noted that it was a little hard to do. Not impossible or massively difficult. It was just kind of uncomfortable, like she'd just finished a marathon or spent too much time around really strong paint fumes.
Just what did she breathe in? Because it must have been really gross if it made her feel like this. Seriously, yuck.
"Okay, deep breathing has been officially Mabel'd. It didn't even stand a chance!" She smiled, to let him know that while she might not be in tippy-top condition she was okay, and then tried to situate herself so she felt less like someone stuck in a hospital and more like a kid ready for adventure. Or whatever this place had in store for them.
"So what's this new weirdness? Is it more Gravity Falls stuff?" Something told her no, mostly because Gravity Falls weird had a certain feel to it, and this was all too...serious.

And if he could stop fretting then he could be be excited.
"It's not Gravity Falls weirdness," Dipper said. "It's new weirdness! Totally new weirdness."
If he sounded thrilled that they'd found new weirdness it was because he was.
"Mabel, we're in an alternate universe in the 31st century. You know how in Moon Trekkers there's the Associated United Conglomeration of Allied Planets, a interplanetary government dedicated to protecting unity, peaceful exploration, tolerance, and everyone's right to mack on multi-colored people?"
(It was kind of a weird show, and the captain on it seemed to lose his shirt way more often than he needed to and macked on people with a whole rainbow of skin colors).
He gestured wildly around the room.
"We're in another universe, in the future, and there's a government here called the United Planets that's just like that. The Medbay doesn't have windows but let me show you the view from the window in the hall outside my room this morning."
He pulled out a high-tech-looking handheld computer, squirmed up next to her and pulled up a video.
Little did he know it, but it wasn't the right clip. It clearly was one he hadn't intended to film, judging from how crooked the shot was (he hadn't realized he'd tossed something on his omnicom and hit the buttons). In it, clothes were tossed around his room and clearly he was trying to put a future wardrobe together. He was wearing a ridiculous alien outfit with flashing lights all over it, and ridiculously oversized sunglasses with blue, weirdly shaped frames and posing sassily in the mirror.
"'Eeeeey," movie Dipper said to his reflection, pointing his fingers at the mirror like guns and making a clicking noise with his mouth.
Dipper's eyes popped open wide.
"Wrong video. Not the right video. Ignore that. That didn't happen," he said, frantically tapping to stop it and delete delete delete because he hadn't intended to film that. Then he cleared his throat and put the right video on. "Moving on."
It was a video of him holding his omnicom up to film the view in the window outside in the hall. As Legion World slowly rotated, the window was filled with a view of the sun glinting off the many rocks of the lunar debris field -- the only thing that remained of Earth's moon. Beyond that curved a view of the Earth, misty blue and pristine, more beautiful than any cgi-generated scene in a science fiction movie.
"Oh man oh man oh man it's space! I'm in space! I can't believe I'm in space! I'm actually in space!" he could be heard in the video. The words devolved into squeaky incoherent noises of excitement shortly in.
