Action

Who| Fareeha Amari (~12 years)
What| Friendship!
Where| Training room, Observation Deck, Mess Hall
When| Throughout her time effected by the Time Ripples
Warnings/Notes| n/a

This is the longest Fareeha has been on her own. No parent chaperoning her, no guarded escorts, no visits with her extended Overwatch family like Reinhardt or Jack. Gabriel was at least here, so that was good, and she has made friends with some of the other Legionnaires, but without guidance and a set routine she's gotten restless.

So, she's made her own routine.

It includes mature things that she thinks would make her mother happy; healthy foods, time spent training, reading through the news or any books she could find. At the end of the day, though, she's still a kid, so there are times you can find her on the observation deck with a piece of cake and a litany of colorful threads spread out as she spends her time deftly making friendship bracelets. It's a fun hobby, and leaves her with something to gift the people who have been nice and helpful to her, but it's also a distraction so she's not constantly thinking about how much she misses home.

If you've spoken to her once or twice (and weren't mean) there's probably a bracelet in there for you.

Training Room

After several moments, he starts to realize that, young or not, she is absolutely taking what she's doing seriously, methodically working her way through the movements with the intention of someone putting down muscle-memory they want to rely on for years. Even coming from a background that's more sports than combat, he can recognize that much.

He waits until it seems like there's a break in the flow to stroll up, lifting a hand in greeting. "Hey, that looks pretty cool. What are you practicing?"

"None." He leans back against an upright punching bag, a motion that slouches him closer to her height without the hands-on-knees bend or anything similarly awkward. "It looks like you've got one up on me in this whole superhero thing."

"One of them, but it's more on the defensive side." Which is great for not getting beaten up while he's learning the ropes, but they're probably not exactly here to be pacifists.

"That sounds like it could help." He grins, straightening up. Why the heck not - it's training, right? "As long as I'm not taking up all your gym time."

"Seriously? There's no school here?" He shoots her an incredulous look, bending over to tug off his shoes and socks before joining her on the mat.

"Good enough for me." He steps up alongside her, facing the same direction and bouncing on the balls of his feet a few times for emphasis. "Okay. Teach me how to beat someone up."

That takes the bounce right out of him, about as neatly as tapping a dog on the nose, and he gives the same uncertain blink before smiling again, this time a little sheepishly.

"Okay then, I guess that's my lesson one. Got it."

All right, this part he knows enough to follow along, double-checking that his feet are in the same position as hers. "Awesome. I'm guessing you're going to join too, once you're older?"

Punching? He's got this, and throws a punch at the empty air, pretty sure that 'thumb outside the fingers' is the main part of getting it right.

If he were his aged-up self, it would be a pretty embarrassing show - guard down, all swing from the shoulders and careless elbows, cocky with years of being one of the taller, stronger kids in any age-grouped crowd who usually has backup not far off. But at 17, he's pretty sure punching isn't more complicated than that.

He's not really offended, so much as confused. She punched, then he punched. Basic, right? He watches what she does, and tries looking closer this time, seeing what she does and squaring up for another try. It's tighter and more guarded, but still not great, force all from the shoulders and arms. But he at least gets the sense this time that there's another movement he's missing, and he frowns, trying to figure out what it is. "You're still doing it differently, aren't you."

Watching her really slow it down again, what she's doing finally clicks, and Gabriel brightens as he things he figures it out.

"Oh-! Yeah, okay, so you're kind of . . ." Winding up into it, he thinks, and he choreographs the punch more in the next effort, but the blow itself whips out fast, driven from hips and and core and- yeah, it feels like a harder punch, definitely.
