Whistling in the Dark - Mod Plot [Log Post]

Who| Everyone who signed up!
What| Whistling in the Dark Plot. The gang has to deal with threats around Legion World and the possessed
Where| Everywhere!
When| After Ferro's post on the network
Warnings/Notes| N/A

Everywhere around the ship things start to fall apart. Aside from the juddering as it shakes, lights start turning off, life support starts failing, the artificial gravity starts malfunctioning, and strange bursts of energy from the ship's engine causes electronics to stop working. And that's not all: it seems like every possible system that could be acting up is acting up.

In short, Legion World is a mess. And all they know so far is that some of the support staff may be responsible and that they're also possibly possessed by some kind of alien infestation that occasionally makes their eyes flash black.

It's time to get answers -- something that will be difficult with all the threats they're facing on the ship. Not only do the Legionnaires have to survive, the support staff will occasionally need rescue, too.

With the rate that systems are failing, the odds are not in their favor, especially since these malfunctions caused the escape pods to automatically launch without any crew in them. They'll have to work fast to stop the threat before everyone on Legion World dies.

...He's going to have to get used to that, isn't he? Just when he thought that life was getting weird enough, someone threw him onto an artificial planet with some kind of space ghost.

No time to question it. He could be privately freaked out on his own time, when people weren't depending on him.

Jason grunted and turned his shoulder into the door. It was a lot easier when he could plant both feet on terra firma and push. It was a bit of a strain, but he managed. He spared Pash a glance and nodded. "Thanks, man. I'm not sure how much longer I could've kept that open."

A good thing, too. The bulk of the crowd was already through, but there were still a few stragglers finding their way through the heat and the smoke. The flames, however, were getting oppressive. Pretty soon, if there was anyone left in that section of the planet ship, they wouldn't be in any shape to rescue.

After a few long moments, with nobody else passing through, Jason raised a hand to catch Pash's attention. He held up all five fingers, rocking his hand forward. When he pulled it back, he curled a finger, starting a countdown of five seconds before he'd be moving and letting the door close.

The signal was easy enough to interpret, and Pash gave a quick nod of assent as he picked up that countdown in his head. Three...two...

When they reached zero, he went insubstantial, phasing out for a few seconds as he moved out of the way - the easiest way to make sure they didn't run into each other getting away from the door.

"That might stop the fire from spreading, but if the damage that caused it wasn't already localized, we might just see another one break out in here." He yanked his omnicom out of his jacket pocket, tapping a few buttons as he started moving for the next door. "Don't suppose you're the techie type?"

Even once they got a diagnostic of whether to expect a system failure on this side of the door, he was pretty sure all that was really going to be good for was telling them how fast to keep running.

The combat roll Jason pulled off there was totally necessary. He didn't just do it because it looked cool in the movies.

The doors slam shut with a final 'clang', cutting them off from the flames. Jason was pretty certain that they'd gotten everyone out of that section and shook his head, relieved that part was over at least. He started after Pash at a jog.

"Sorry, no. Billy might've been able to figure this stuff out, but my world only landed on the Moon thirty years ago. They're having to teach me computer skills from scratch." It was a big leap to 30th century tech when your only experience with computers was Oregon Trail. He can still remember Brainiac 5's expression when he'd asked where the floppy disks were.

He scowled up at the ceiling as they ran, not even bothering to glance at the omnicomm display. Pash seemed like he knew what he was doing, if not where they were going. "They must not've been able to repair the sprinkler systems." He'd heard that fire suppression was down over the comms, but they were patchy now and he wasn't paying them too much heed. Too many calls for help, it was overwhelming. He had to trust that the others would get on it. "We should get our group to safety then, I don't know. Maybe we should try to open up a vacuum in the areas we leave behind? You know, so that the fire doesn't actually spread? Can we do that?" It was what the Lux seemed to want, but between temporarily giving the enemy ground and making sure that damage didn't spread, Jason was pretty sure that the damage was the big thing here.

"Might be risky, but I think it's a better plan than anything else we've got." The fire was bad enough that there was no way anyone who wasn't out by now was going to make it. But if there was a chance of at least keeping whatever wasn't already melted into slag from getting worse, it'd certainly make effecting repairs later less of a chore.

Assuming they made it that far. But this definitely wasn't the time to think about that possibility.

"Vent atmosphere for a minute or two, let it burn out for lack of oxygen, reseal the airlocks. Nothing to lose by trying, anyway." He looked at one of the techs heading down the corridor with them, who'd been the last one through the door. "Maybe the question is, can we do that from here? Is there another control panel up ahead?"

The tech nodded, started saying something in the affirmative, but Pash interrupted - "Override codes?"

"You won't need one."

"Huh." Okay, the tech here was better, maybe there was some kind of bioscan recognition built into the system. (Or maybe the Legion just assumed everyone onboard was on the level. But he liked built-in recognition better. Sticking with that thought, then.)

"Couldn't hurt, anyway." Man, Jason was glad to be with someone who actually had a clue of what he was talking about. He'd have to buy Pash a smoothie or something later, when this was all done and over with. That they'd be in the shape to do something like that wasn't even a question in his mind.

Jason let them go back and forth. Override codes, messing with control panels, all of that was over his head. When they wound down, he cut to the stuff that he could actually make sense of. "So, we're splitting up the group? Some of us going for doors, maybe two or three of us going for that control panel?" He shook his head, trying to cut off an argument there. "I definitely want more than one person going there. Just in case something happens, you know?"

Now that he was considering it, it made more sense for the actual Legionnaires to be doing the control panel job. They took the Oath. That probably meant that it was their duty to stick around in the dangerous areas while everyone else made it to safety.

"You're right, we don't need anybody running around without a wingman right now." He glanced at the support crew. No Legionnaires in the vicinity aside from them, and anyway - the civilians had been here longer, knew their way around. They'd know their best exit vector without any outside input.

"You and I take the control panel, everyone else gets clear. Acceptable?"

Jason nodded. "Sounds good to me." He waved a hand at the support crew. "Might as well get started. Every second counts."

He paused.

Zordon would say something along the lines of the Power protecting them. Here, though, that'd mean nothing. Jason never really thought much on the Power, other than it being his. And now he didn't even have that. So he just offered a salute. "Be careful, okay?"

Without waiting too long for a reply, Jason turned and started off at a trot. A few seconds later, he turned around to Pash again, grinning sheepishly. "...You're the one with the map. Lead the way, bro."
