"This is going to be great!" Ferro enthused. He got so excited he clapped his hands together a little bit, which made a dull, metallic ringing sound.

There were quite a few dressing rooms in the large workshop where the Anthramite clothiers worked and Ferro was waiting in the large area outside them all, eagerly waiting to see how everyone reacted to their new costumes. The Anthramites had done most of the designs, with input from their respective Legionnaires, but they'd started to let him help sometimes after he'd shown them some samples of his sewing, so he'd gotten to suggest some alterations this time, too.

He sat on a stool and kicked his legs slightly, idly looking over at one of the many mirrors around the workshop, but then he quickly looked away.

It wasn't that he disliked his reflection the way he used to. Back then, whenever he did, all he could think about was the ugliness that his mask was covering, but he'd finally made peace with that. No, he hated looking in mirrors because in their shining surfaces he saw his body shining back and it just made him think about how he might be stuck as living metal forever, never able to turn human again. He might never be able to taste food or feel people's hugs or --

Ferro decided to stop thinking about it and instead looked at some of the sewing patterns the Anthramites left out. They'd left the room for now, mostly because some of them was getting cranky at them trying to re-measure their inseams fifty times, so now he was getting to poke around in their stuff in a way he usually didn't.

"You don't really feel like a superhero until you put your costume on for the first time." He paused. "Well, actually, that's not true, you don't really feel like a superhero until you put your costume on for the first time and save somebody, but the costume part makes it feel more like you're a superhero than just the saving someone, because if you save someone in normal clothes you're kind of just a hero, so you need the costume for the super part."

[ooc: If you guys would like to make some visuals, there are a few superhero generators you can check out. 1 (f only), 2 (m/f, somewhat complicated to use but the 2.5 version is simpler so you can also try that), 3 (m/f, somewhat limited), 4 (m/f, not in English but easy to figure out, good options), and 5 (m/f, limited options, but simple to use).]

"I'm not nearly that good with a fork," Parker said. She pursed her lips. "My hitter might be able to do that, but he's in another universe and it turns out the earbuds don't have that kind of range."

She'd really like to talk to Eliot right now. Or Hardison.

"Oh, that's cool," she said. "I was stuck at home when my team went to Japan, so I haven't met any ninja before. Wanna trade sneaky tricks sometime?"

"We're crawling all over New York back home, too, however that happened."

...that, actually, was a really good question, when he thought about it - how much did the Foot's presence in New York have to do with expanding their power base worldwide and where else were they, and at what strength? Things he'd have to remember to get answers for, if (when) he got back from this side trip.

"I'm always up for an exchange of information." New tricks, new ways of looking at old ones, it was all potentially useful no matter how he looked at it.

"How do you not know how you ended up in New York?" Parker asked, bewildered. She had fond memories of New York, since that was where she'd tried to pick Archie's pocket. But she probably wouldn't have been able to appreciate ninjas as much at that point, so it was probably for the best that she hadn't encountered any.

"Cool," she said, looking him up and down. "I'm not sure if all of the stuff I know will work for a turtle person, but I'm sure you could get something useful out of it. If only how to attempt to keep people like me out of places."

"Well, that depends on whether it's us personally, or us as in that other ninja clan..."

Yep, there were two of them. And of course there were ancient grudges involved. They were one good dance routine and a star-crossed love short of West Side Story.

"The best defense is understanding the offense. I'll take anything you've got."

"Unless you've been doing research on them, I don't expect you to know about how other ninjas got to New York," Parker answered. "Though I assume you probably have if you know about them. We keep track of the local criminals; my guess is that it's the same with ninja."

She grinned. "Cool. I'll show you around the fun ventilation shafts to start. Unless you want to do it over food. I understand people do that sometimes."

"You keep track of the neighbors, you're ready to act before they start playing their music too loud and leaving crap on your lawn." For a much deadlier interpretation of that metaphor, anyway.

"I got a little distracted by the labs and haven't really started looking." Polite understatement. It had been hard for Donnie to pry himself away from the labs, and when he did, he usually still had his face in some kind of technology. Still, there was definitely some merit in knowing his way around the ducts (it was the first thing Leo would've gotten up to if he were here, probably), so that was probably better rectified. "As long as the shell fits, I'm game."

Parker frowned at him, confused. "We don't have a lawn, and our neighbors are retail establishments," she said, the metaphor flying right over her head.

She brightened. "Oh, you're a geek! That's cool. Do you just like building things or do you hack too?"

Then she circled him, moving back to their original topic of conversation. "Hm, yeah, I think we can fit you into most of the vents. They're pretty roomy, it's almost luxurious. But I guess when you're designing for aliens, you add a bit more wiggle room."

Mental note made: watch the metaphors around this one.

"I'm a little better with building stuff than programming it, but considering my brothers wouldn't know the right end of a command prompt if it bit them in the tail, I do whatever needs doing. Which is usually a lot." There was nothing worse than letting a perfectly good intrusion get botched by someone's complete failure to properly reroute the security cameras, after all.

"I know, right?" Parker said, nodding her head enthusiastically. "My life got so much more interesting when I started working with a hacker regularly. I still do solo runs, just to keep my skills up, but it's nice to by-pass the keypad on the locked door because I've already got the code instead of having to find a way to lurk out of camera range until someone else inputs a code."

"Getting the code can be pretty fun, too. A good system that has a little challenge to it is fun to work around. A lot more fun than waiting around for the stars to align and open the doors up the legit way."

Out of his usual team, at least one of them would usually find fighting fun, at least one of them would usually find the more active sneaking fun, and Donnie himself would find the hacking fun even if nobody else did. But nobody ever enjoyed the waiting around part, even if Leo tried to make it sound like a useful and productive test of patience.

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-02-16 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
"...How do you hack astral alignment?" Parker asked, intrigued. She'd never heard of a lock that required the stars to align to open, but it sounded pretty cool. She might normally assume it was a metaphor, but she was talking to a turtle ninja, it was entirely possible that he'd actually had to deal with that situation.

"...uh, figure of speech, sorry."

But from the thoughtful look on his face a moment after the confused one faded, he might've just started trying to figure out a scenario for that one, because that? Would be a pretty awesome trick.

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-02-23 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Aww..." Parker pouted. "If you figure it out, you should tell me and we should do it. Because that would be so cool."
