Does this make my butt look big? [MINGLE POST]

Who| EVERYONE who wants in
What| Costume mingle post! Characters can try on their costumes for the first time and react to them with each other.
Where| The Anthramite Clothers' Workshop
When| A few days after everyone gets to adjust
Warnings/Notes| None!

"This is going to be great!" Ferro enthused. He got so excited he clapped his hands together a little bit, which made a dull, metallic ringing sound.

There were quite a few dressing rooms in the large workshop where the Anthramite clothiers worked and Ferro was waiting in the large area outside them all, eagerly waiting to see how everyone reacted to their new costumes. The Anthramites had done most of the designs, with input from their respective Legionnaires, but they'd started to let him help sometimes after he'd shown them some samples of his sewing, so he'd gotten to suggest some alterations this time, too.

He sat on a stool and kicked his legs slightly, idly looking over at one of the many mirrors around the workshop, but then he quickly looked away.

It wasn't that he disliked his reflection the way he used to. Back then, whenever he did, all he could think about was the ugliness that his mask was covering, but he'd finally made peace with that. No, he hated looking in mirrors because in their shining surfaces he saw his body shining back and it just made him think about how he might be stuck as living metal forever, never able to turn human again. He might never be able to taste food or feel people's hugs or --

Ferro decided to stop thinking about it and instead looked at some of the sewing patterns the Anthramites left out. They'd left the room for now, mostly because some of them was getting cranky at them trying to re-measure their inseams fifty times, so now he was getting to poke around in their stuff in a way he usually didn't.

"You don't really feel like a superhero until you put your costume on for the first time." He paused. "Well, actually, that's not true, you don't really feel like a superhero until you put your costume on for the first time and save somebody, but the costume part makes it feel more like you're a superhero than just the saving someone, because if you save someone in normal clothes you're kind of just a hero, so you need the costume for the super part."

[ooc: If you guys would like to make some visuals, there are a few superhero generators you can check out. 1 (f only), 2 (m/f, somewhat complicated to use but the 2.5 version is simpler so you can also try that), 3 (m/f, somewhat limited), 4 (m/f, not in English but easy to figure out, good options), and 5 (m/f, limited options, but simple to use).]

Zuko squirmed as he walked out and didn't stop squirming, even as he was still moving. His face was flushed bright red. Okay, he didn't hate it.

Well...he hated it a little, but not because of the colors or anything like that. That was actually all fine, it was just -- it was so --

"It's really..." A pause. "Tight."

Nobody wore clothes this tight back home and in all three nations. Nobody. And most people wore layered clothing.

"Does it have to be this tight?" he asked nobody in particular. He was willing to take a 'no' from anyone at this point.

"Superheroes have to have tight costumes. It's tradition." Jason, for one, looked far too used to wearing the space-spandex. His own costume strongly resembles an all red-and-white version of the old Legion Cadet uniforms, save for a trio of red diamonds across his chest where the L-shield should have been. As far as he was concerned, a hint of old school and a hint of new school was all he needed.

...Though a part of him really missed having a helmet.

He grinned over to the scarred guy, though he probably lingered on the old burns more than was polite, and shrugged, slipping his hands into his jacket's pockets. "Hey, at least you don't need padded muscles. Those always look so corny on actors." You'd probably sweat up a storm wearing them, too. Foam didn't seem like it'd breathe well.

Adrien had been hiding in the medical labs for days now. Honestly, it's what he'd been doing and if not there, he'd been in his quarters, reading everything and anything he could get his hands on about this world and Legionnaires.

He was aware that there had been a suggestion or two about mingling but they'd mostly gone ignored in favor of trying to get his feet under him; particularly in Medical. So when he got directed towards a workshop, he probably should have been suspicious but his mind was chewing on something he'd read and as such he didn't completely realize what he'd walked in on.

Not until he was a few steps into the shop and looking around at the skin tight, brightly colored scraps of fabric on display (and possibly on people!) Taking one look at a bright, neon orange jump suit with neon green accents, he turned around and began to head for the door.

Which was about the time Ferro spoke up, talking about the difference between hero and superhero.

"I'm okay with that," the doctor remarked. "I'm not okay with being visible from orbit without a telescope."

Neon Orange and Neon Green!!

No, nope, no way, not happening. Shoving his hands into his white lab coat, (his nice, neutral, plain white lab coat) he was going to do his best to escape.

Nothing had been finished for Donatello just yet - which was just as well, since he was holding the handful of sketches someone had passed him, turning them around to see if they looked any better turned sideways or upside-down (the answer: of course not), and squinting dubiously.

"I'm a turtle. I don't even wear clothes."

Who wanted to try and fuss with that over their shell, anyway?

"I don't know about great..."

Pash didn't seem too put off by his reflection once he emerged from one of the dressing rooms and surveyed himself in the closest mirror. Possibly because - "But I've been in two militaries and this is still the first uniform I've had that doesn't clash with my hair, so I have to give points for that."

It wasn't all that bad, really, awkward tightness aside. Primarily a simple black, a few accents in purple - the only really bright color to his uniform was the yellow on the obligatory Legion symbol on the belt. He did a turn in front of the mirror, gaze still scrutinizing.

And then took a few steps back to reach inside the door to the dressing room and grab something from the pile of his old clothes sitting on the floor: a slightly faded flight jacket with unit patches on the sleeves for Cracken's Flight Group and Ace Squadron.

"I'm keeping my jacket on, though."

In what was probably a nice change of pace for the clothers, Saralegui was fairly happy with what he was given.

Of course, he'd somehow managed to avoid getting one of those skintight, brightly colored things so many of the others were complaining about. What he'd ended up with wasn't too far off from the sort of thing he'd normally have worn anyway -- golds and ivories, high boots and simple cloaks.

So he sat calmly in the waiting area outside the dressing rooms with legs crossed, the odd mask thing pulled down to hang around his neck and glasses back on to shield the glare of the room's lighting. And while he was content with his own costume, he was delighted to watch everyone else suffer through the spandex.

"It's not that bad," he'd say, oh-so comforting. "It's...slimming."

He was trying not to grin, but it was a losing batttle.

"Better not let the Athramites hear you say that. They're very particular about their work. I only escaped the horror by already having something that worked."

Hiccup, was, like normal, wearing something that looked like a medieval version of riding leathers. The only concessions to modernity were the belt buckle and the fact that it wasn't actually made out of leather, but rather a somewhat more flexible synthetic substitute.

"Is there any way to make the belt less shiny?"

Parker examined her reflection in the mirror. She was pretty okay with her uniform -- it was mostly black, and the parts that weren't black were a gray that would have looked black if they hadn't been next to black. Really, it wasn't all that different from the kind of thing she wore stealing back home, except it was a super hero costume and the semi-built-in shoes were even more comfortable than her sneakers.

"I'm not used to shiny. It's weird."

She was going to have to get a picture for Hardison.

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-01-14 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think wearing clothes a requirement," Parker said helpfully, peering over his shoulder at the designs from her position hovering in mid-air. "I was looking at the files and there have definitely been naked people on this team before."

"All clothes do is get in the way and make noise. I don't know how all you people stand them."

How was anyone supposed to ninja properly when their pantlegs kept rubbing together?

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-01-15 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
"We're trained at a young age to tolerate it," Parker said with a shrug. "Also, it can provide protection from the cold, the sun, unpleasant textures, some animals, road rash, bullets, and electricity, and other day-to-day problems."

She cocked her head to the side, remembering some of the things Sophie had taught her about clothes. "Additionally, the revealing or concealing of various body parts can be used to manipulate people. I'm treated much differently wearing a little pink dress and uncomfortable shoes than I am in a suit and shoes I can run in."

The shine wasn't what Saralegui was focused on, giving her outfit a once over from his seat at the side of the room with an odd expression.

"It's a great deal of black."

Boots and belts and the like were fine, unimportant enough to be permissible. But that much black fabric felt...presumptuous. Irreverent.

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-01-16 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I like black," Parker answered.

She'd never seen much point in owning clothes that she couldn't work in, which meant black and a few pieces in white and gray. Archie had attempted to teach her about wearing color a few times, but she'd never seen it as particularly important and he'd eventually given up and gone back to teaching her to steal things. Sophie had managed to get more color in Parker's closet by explaining how and when and why to wear it for the sake of the con. Still work clothes, just not "thieving" clothes.

But black was comfortable, and Archie and Sophie had both acknowledged that it "worked" for her, so black she continued to wear.

[personal profile] enthraller 2016-01-16 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"So do I."

But liking it didn't make it appropriate to wear. Saralegui frowned, still with that odd expression, but held his tongue. No one else seemed to be giving it so much as a second glance, and obviously the clothers had to think it alright if they went ahead and made it. Perhaps it wasn't so big a deal here? He'd already seen more than one of the soukoku since arriving, after all...

Still. Still, it was strange, and he couldn't help the slight judgmental look on his face.

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-01-16 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
"How come you're wearing all white then?" Parker asked, turning around to look the guy over. His facial expression didn't register as anything of importance. "Or...cream? Eggshell?" She wrinkled her nose. Whatever, it was white-ish. "It's an easy color to get dirty, and it stands out or contrasts against most backgrounds."

[personal profile] enthraller 2016-01-16 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Ivory," he corrected smoothly, schooling his expression back into something more neutral. "And I don't plan on hiding or getting dirty. That isn't how I do things."

No, he'd always worked best with everyone watching, even without including his powers in the equation. Trying to stay out of sight would be counterproductive.

Hiccup was also on Team Miraculously Avoiding Spandex, by virtue of getting a version of his flight-suit, minus the glider attachments, made.

"Quit making fun. It could be worse. They at least have the build for it. I can think of more than a few people back home that I'd never want to see in clothes this tight." And at least one blonde, axe-wielding, Nadder riding warrior woman he did want to see in them, but he wasn't going to bring that up.

Beside him, Toothless nodded in agreement at his comment.

[personal profile] enthraller 2016-01-16 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not," Saralegui said innocently. "I'm just trying to help them appreciate the clothers' hard work. Surely, these outfits were all designed with our best interests in mind."

Of course, the innocent act was a little less convincing for his lack of focus in keeping it up. But could you blame him? There was a dragon right there. He'd never actually seen one before, after all. It was hard not to blatantly lean forward in his seat to peek around Hiccup for a better look.

"Yeah, I don't think I have the face to pull off the dress, but if you've got it, might as well use it."

Maybe if he were looking to elicit a completely different reaction than she was going for. Like, a running-and-screaming distraction. (Then again, that didn't seem to be a problem he was going to have with the people here...which was still not a compelling argument for trying.)

"If someone sees me at all, it usually means the plan just went out the window, anyway."
wherenoonegoes: (Hiccup excuse me)

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2016-01-16 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually, from what I heard, fighting crime in brightly colored tight-fitting outfits is tradition around here. And, as you might be aware, tradition and practicality don't exactly always see eye-to-eye. Take it from the guy who's named Hiccup because tradition says I have to be."

Hiccup had something of a love-hate relationship with tradition. There were some he didn't mind, some he even actively enjoyed, but many Viking traditions were just really, really dumb.

Well, that certainly drew his eyes back to the other young man, brows raised and the corner of his mouth twitching with the struggle to not laugh.

"Hiccup? That's, ah...unfortunate."

He probably wouldn't have said anything about it normally. It wouldn't seem polite, after all. But hey, if you're gonna bring it up first...
wherenoonegoes: (Hiccup silly me)

[personal profile] wherenoonegoes 2016-01-16 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Trust me, I already know that." Hiccup said, pinching the bridge of his nose in irritation. "According to legend, terrible names are supposed to ward off children-eating monsters, like trolls. Whether or not there were ever any trolls to ward off in the first place has never really entered into it."

"Explained like that, it's almost understandable."

His tone was all sympathy, betrayed only by the tiny quirk of a smirk on his face.

"Still," he added, mercifully shifting the topic away from that unfortunate name a bit, "It's not the strangest tradition I've ever heard of."

[personal profile] leverageintceo 2016-01-16 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose someone has to," Parker allowed after a moment's consideration. "It's how I do things though, so: black. And dark gray technically."

She began doing some stretches, to verify that the uniform was stretchy enough to allow for the necessary amount of flexibility she'd need. If she was going to have a problem, best to figure it out now rather than when she was out in the field.

Of course, that meant when she spoke again to continue the conversation, she seemed to be doing a reasonably good job of attempting to tie herself into a knot.

"So what do you do?"

It really didn't seem to be anything important to everyone else here, if her careless manner was anything to go by. At least, she didn't seem to be playing dumb. So as much as it felt wrong to him, he smothered the feeling as best he could and affected a smile.

"Talk, mostly," he replied, all good humor and light tone.
