1 - Observation Deck
76 is not exactly thrilled with this turn of events, if these events are even real. He’s not convinced this isn’t some kind of simulation meant to ply him for intelligence—he wouldn’t put it past some of his enemies, but he has to admit this is extremely elaborate.
He doesn’t take the oath. Says that he needs time to consider, but that’s sort of a lie because he doesn’t intend to concede unless they can come up with an extremely good reason for him to do so. This isn’t his fight. The Legion, as it’s been described, reminds him all too much of Overwatch, and he’s not sure he’s ready to walk that road again, not after how that went down. Saving the world (universe? multiverse?) is all well and good, of course, but 76 has learned the hard way what an impossible task it really is. He’s not keen on doing it again—doesn’t trust that they’re not making the same mistakes he did.
It wouldn’t frustrate him so much if he hadn’t been right in the middle of progress back home. He’d found Ana. Felt for the first time in a very long time that he was on his way to answers, and now this. Is it any wonder he doesn’t want to sign himself over to this?
The observation deck is almost laughably appropriate for this kind of introspection. 76 could have gone to space (or at least into orbit) whenever he wanted, but he’d never exactly found time, like he never found time for an innumerable list of things. Now, he spends his first few hours out of the medbay staring down at the Earth, wondering what he could have done differently, or if this was inevitable all along.
This huge dude in full tactical gear and deep contemplation is definitely someone you want to talk to, right? Right.
2 - Sim Room/Training Gym
But he’s not about to let himself be idle. Hallucination or simulation or not, it pays to keep sharp, so when he’s not trying to learn every inch of this new place, he’s running himself through almost everything he can get his hands on in the training facilities. Since he can't do anything to solve his current problem (one which is still a little baffling to him), he figures now is as good a time as any to go blow off some steam by shooting things.
76 isn’t especially creative when it comes to this sort of thing, so he programs up a relatively simple target range, which he guesses is a nice thing to be able to do. Being kidnapped to space and/or being stuck in a space hallucination is no excuse to let himself slip.
You might not want to interrupt him while he’s shooting (his very big gun), but maybe, possibly, he will not react badly to being approached. We can hope, anyway.

So he's paying attention to that and not the big dude with the weird visor thing until he looks up, notices he's about to hit the guy or and maybe also run over his fingers with roller blades, so he hops off, can't correct the momentum at all and slammed into the guy's back.

What follows is not very pretty. 76 is violently reactive on a good day, and this is a bad one, which means his first instinct is to lash right out at the perceived threat.
There is a fist coming right for you, Casey.
no subject
He often opts to take the hits rather than dodge them because it means he can usually stay in the fight. But this isn't a fight and he wasn't really prepared for it to become one and this man is strong and it all adds up to Casey realizing he made a huge mistake on his way down to the floor. If he'd been nailed a little lower, he'd be spitting out another tooth.
When the vision comes back in the eye that isn't going to be swelled shut later, he can offer a "my bad." For now he can just groan.
no subject
For a moment, it seems like he's going to follow through, but he catches himself in time, realizing that this is just a kid. Probably a stupid kid, but still a kid. That doesn't mean that 76 is going to be friendly, however.
"Watch what you're doing with that thing."

"Hi," she said, staying carefully out of immediate grabbing range. "You have good hair."
As that was about the only part of him she could see that was probably a good conversation starter. Right?
no subject
As soon as she spoke, his gun was up and trained on her with almost inhuman reflexes. To his credit, he had his trigger finger under control (or maybe he just realized that shooting up an observation deck was a bad idea), but that didn't mean everything else about him wasn't hostile.
"Don't move."
Though they'd done their best to tell him otherwise in the medical bay, 76 was not entirely convinced that everything here wasn't a potential threat.
no subject
As instructed, she didn't move.
"Good reflexes, too," she said. "Don't shoot me. Or the dome protecting us from the vacuum of space."
Shooting = bad. Got it?
no subject
Still, he didn't appear pleased with this turn of events, even as he lowered the gun (slightly).
"If you need something, you better make it quick."

The Master Chief is not a sentimental man. Kit breaks. Life goes on. Here, though, the MJOLNIR suit can't easily be replaced and losing it would be a serious blow to his effectiveness. He's been running with variants of this system since he was a teenager, and even if the Legion could pull together something similar, it would be a big adjustment. If that means he has to be a bit more protective of the armor than he's been in the past, so be it.
He pauses for a moment when he notices a stranger on the deck. That's not completely unusual, the Chief doesn't know Legion World's whole crew, but the way 76 is dressed is pretty obviously not of this century. Or millennium, even.
"You new?" he asks, just seeking confirmation.
Most new people end up being members of the team, and he'd prefer to at least know them a little.
no subject
What he does is give the guy a very obvious once-over, sizing him up before speaking carefully.
"Yeah."
He knows his newness is pretty obvious.
"Welcoming committee?"
That's totally a joke, but 76 is so painfully dry that it might be hard to tell.
no subject
"I would've brought balloons, but it was short notice." The delivery is equally deadpan.
He sizes 76 up too, but there's no edge in it. He's just a little curious. The guy definitely looks like he's no slouch in a fight, the Chief's seen the type even if the outfit's nonstandard.
no subject
As it stands, however, that's not what happens.
"You can save it."
That's not meant to be hostile, rather, 76 says it like he's stating a fact--because it is a fact. He is, for all intents and purposes, a civilian, despite appearances. He's willing to bet this guy is not. "Didn't take the oath."

Just...with a long-range taser and not a really big gun.
Yeah, he doesn't look like the kind of guy who's into sharing his space. But what's that they say about books and covers? Well, yeah you have to read the front of the cover to get an idea of what the book is, and the back cover for the price and maybe the inside of the dust jacket for the synopsis and in this case the author's biography would really help a lot as well...
Where was she going with any of this, except to make her stand there staring at the back of his head like a creep for a solid minute.
"Uh, hi."
no subject
Eventually, however, the feel of eyes on him is far too uncomfortable, and he fires off the end of his clip, lowering his rifle when he's done.
"Need something?"
He sounds a little bit like he's been gargling fiberglass. Oof.
no subject
Right, now that she's awkwarded her way into...something that might have a chance to not be awkward in the future, she can take up a spot somewhat away from him. What she wants to do is see if she can reliably hit multiple targets with one whip, and that takes a lot of room to do.
no subject
He'd be a terrible soldier if he wasn't able to pay attention to his surroundings at all times. 76 is finely-tuned to any infringement on his (fairly large) personal bubble, and he'd detected Pidge in his periphery long before he stopped shooting.
"Range is big enough for the two of us. You can go ahead."

"Not bad. Soldier or mercenary?"
no subject
"The former."
Not that there's much of a difference between vigilantism and mercenary work, except for the paycheck.
"Nice suit."
It's a suit, right? You're not a robot, right?

Although, to a point, this is kind of like having a conversation with Maine, except Maine didn't have to try so hard for his intimidation factor. Wash is about to ask the guy if he could speak when...he does. Well, that answers that question.
He nods to the guy's gun. "Nice rig." It's the third most ridiculous gun he's ever seen, but it's effective. "What's it take?"

Of course, by the time she got to medbay, he was already gone, and asking around tipped her off to the fact that he probably hadn't taken the oath by now. Which she was kind of expecting, but still, at this point it seemed ridiculous.
It took a bit more leg-work, but eventually she managed to track him down to the observation deck. It was her first hunch anyway, since that seemed to be the typical 'contemplate the enormity of what's going on' spot for most of the other new recruits.
"JACK MORRISON!" came the loud and really, really annoyed tone from Ana as she stomped over towards him, in much the same way that an aggravated mother or older sister might call to a misbehaving child.
no subject
Which was probably why he was hunched over, hands on his knees, taking a few deep breaths, and moving to hold one finger up as a sign to wait for him.
"I am... not as young as I used to be..." He panted out, before attempting to straighten up and placing one hand against the wall. "Please, just... a moment to catch my breath, please..."
no subject
From where he stood, of course, he'd only just reunited with her before being kidnapped (because that's what this was, kidnapping) onto the space station. It was clear from the way his eyebrows pinched together right at the top of his visor that he was maybe having a little bit of difficulty processing this.
"Ana?"
And Reinhardt, apparently. So much for being dead.
This was unexpected, and 76 instantly looked about half a second from bolting. He had half a mind to--Ana's presence being the only thing that kept him from doing it. He'd worked so hard to track her to Giza that even if this wasn't real, he didn't think he could bring himself to pass this up.

But to be honest, that visor over his eyes was also just really freaking cool. Like, something straight out of a sci-fi movie. A cool one, not one of those lame straight-to-DVD films.
But really, Gwen liked to come here too. It was cool to just look on and listen to her music, and think about... A lot of things. But she could do the thinking later. Right now, she just really had to know:
"Dude, you look so cool right now."
no subject
He's a huge guy in full tactical gear with an even bigger gun. Maybe that's cool? He doesn't seem to know what to do about this assessment, the arch of his eyebrow visible over the top of his visor.
"Usually people tell me to put the gun away."
no subject
"That's some pretty killer gear, though. Digging the visor, too."
The best part right there.
