Honestly, Wash is still kind of surprised that this is happening in the first place. It had almost been a joke - asking when Chief was planning on taking him to dinner - but neither of them had played it as such, and now they're here, and here happens to be one of the fanciest goddamn restaurants in this part of the galaxy (and Wash knows, because somehow Buzzfeed survived this far in the future and is still making lists and this place sure has come up on several of them) and Wash is feeling severely underdressed in his collared shirt and khakis.
Well, at least he hadn't pulled a York and run around like a chicken with his head cut off at the prospect of dressing nicely, only to wind up getting something from the Anthramites. No, he'd handled this one like a goddamn adult. He'd just wished he'd had a little more advance notice, because this is a suit jacket sort of place and he really doesn't have one of those.
"How did you get reservations here, anyway?" Might as well have the conversation while they're waiting to be seated. "I thought this place booked up like a year in advance."
He would not be at all surprised to hear Chief had Cortana's help with that aspect of things. Honestly, he also wouldn't be surprised to hear that Chief had managed this on his own, either. It's Chief - he gets things done.
Even if that something is a date, which Wash can safely assume he's never done before. If all else failed, this should be an interesting night. Honestly, underneath the surprise and the inadequacy, he's feeling pretty excited about the whole thing.
