Shoulder back, head up, back straight, smile. Claire went through a mental checklist as her heels clicked on the training room floor. She strode with confident steps towards the middle where her opponent waited, standing in ... uh, a t-shirt and sweats? Seriously? Ugh it was like Owen Grady all over again.

She resists rolling her eyes as she finally grows close enough to hold her hand out in greeting.

"Claire Dearing," A beat, then she remembers about their superhero names; "also known as The Director. Thank you for meeting me today."

She was trying not to think too hard about just what they were going to be doing here; it was still so far out of her scope of experience it all seemed extremely surreal. Flight ring? Superpowers? Definitely going to be easier to handle once she's had some experience with them.

Help a newbie out with their powers and the whole flight ring thing? Sure, no problem, someone did that for him when he first rolled out of medical with half a mind back to his life before and half convinced this was an elaborate prank. But hey. It's real, she wants a hand getting into the swing of things and making sure everyone is combat effective is an old habit recently drug up by...things. Might as well indulge.

Then she's got red hair and a determined stride and (like almost always) he's got half a second where he sees another pair of eyes, another self assured smirk- and it passes. Okay. Claire, not Carolina. He can do this. He manages to pull on a quick smile and take her hand for a firm shake up till he gives a reflexive full body flinch. "uh- Locksmith. Taylor Murray. And sure, no problem. Mind if we just go by civvie names?"

A beat.

"Nothing personal just. Got some baggage."

Firm handshake, that's good, but that flinch makes her frown ever so slightly. She's glad he follows it up with an explanation of sorts, but it does leave her with more questions. It's not her place to ask, though; she doesn't know Taylor well enough, nor is that the focus of today's meeting, er ... session.

She nods, "Absolutely. To be honest, it feels a little childish, doesn't it? Superhero names?" She'd say the same about wearing costumes, but she'd at least been able to make hers similar to something she'd wear in the office; simply opting for the jumpsuit instead of a skirt because of the flight rings.

"Wait till you meet the fandom." Which is...it's own kind of mess he's not here to get into. Ropes, they need to be shown, etc. "You actually try floating around just yet with the ring? Having another dimension of attack and dodging incoming fire helps a whole hell of a lot when you remember to actually, yanno, do it."

As for what they'll be using for fire, he's got a pocket full of marbles ready for low level charging.

"A little. It didn't seem like the kind of thing that should be attempted without supervision outside of a dire emergency." Meaning, she knew she could probably figure it out, but if she had the time, tools, and assistance to learn it right; that'd be a place to start.

"This is not the sort of thing I've ever had to deal with."

"Best I had back home were experimental combat jetpacks that were...hit or miss." He wobbles a hand back and forth in the air as he walks over to the console, programming in some soft padding along the floor and walls. Just to be safe. "The ring's the best place to start, honestly, but you're gonna wanna go slow. We can hit supersonic speeds with them, I haven't tried that yet but- yeah. Baby steps."

"Super ... supersonic speeds?" It's too much to fathom. She follows him to the console, watching over his shoulder and making a note of what he's doing and what the results are. Ah, padded surfaces. That does sound like a good idea.

"Yes; baby steps. I'd rather like to learn how to walk before I run." Metaphorically speaking, of course.

"Yeeeeup." Terrifying to think of, honestly. But they're all learning how to use them responsibly so yay? Yay. He takes a half step up like he would for a ladder and lifts himself up, walking until he's about five feet above ground. It's how he likes to contextualize the movement. "Some people just float, some superman, some jetpack jump- we all have our own way."

She watches him, still wondering how is this not a dream? But there's something too real about it; she can see him, hear his voice and its faint echo of the space, even the smell is different, subtle, but there; like a corporate gym that sees more of its maintenance and cleaning crew than the employees it's supposed to benefit.

Hands down at her sides, fingers slightly curled, and follows his lead; she imagines a staircase, and takes a few decisive steps up it, until she's standing on the hypothetical step above Taylor. "Start with what I know, right?"

"That's the idea." He grins, pleased with her getting the hang of this method so quickly. "Trick is remembering that when there are startling and potentially dangerous variables. Like gunfire. We play nonlethal and nice on our end but there's no real guarantee the other side will. Knowing when and how to dodge is kind of important." He settles into floating, palming a marble from his pocket and holding it out for her inspection.

"I got the ability to charge inorganic material with energy till it explodes. I'm gonna get these about the level of a firecracker- startling but harmless. Noise and light but no chance of getting hurt."

She's good at adapting and learning on the fly; it's certainly kept her alive in a pinch.

For now, though, she's looking down past her feet and feeling a little swell of vertigo at the sight below.

She turns to looks back at him. She's not afraid of heights, at all, but not being supported by anything is taking some getting used to. She crosses her arms, and eventually lets herself float instead of standing on an unseen surface.

That's weird too, but she'll go along with it.

Leaning forward, she looks over his marbles, imagining that they'd hurt under any circumstance. "Gunfire, right. How do they compare to human weapons?" Namely, is gunfire pretty standard around the universe or is she going to have to worry about lasers and other things?

"I don't go for damage anymore cuz- baggage- but I'm pretty solid with making them flashbangs and distractions. A lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Look, he read a book! He read SEVERAL books!

somewhere in the nebulous past. It's been awhile but that's a good line and not entirely untrue. He flicks one in the distance and it dose give a little flash and pop- good for a sign of impact without hurting anything. "Most people have the usual stun rounds or rubber bullets or focus their powers on disarming and detaining."

She nods, listening, trying to wrap her head around all of it but there's a little bit of a disconnect with the whole idea on powers. She didn't feel different; stronger, faster, or anything of the sort.

Outside of floating above the ground right now but that could be attributed to the ring.

She lets herself settle back down on the ground, slowly and carefully (getting a hang of seed regulation, for the win!), and goes to inspect the area his marbles had hit.

"So, with powers, how do you, ah ... use them?" Her face screws up in confusion.
