Whistling in the Dark - Mod Plot [Log Post]
Who| Everyone who signed up!
What| Whistling in the Dark Plot. The gang has to deal with threats around Legion World and the possessed
Where| Everywhere!
When| After Ferro's post on the network
Warnings/Notes| N/A
Everywhere around the ship things start to fall apart. Aside from the juddering as it shakes, lights start turning off, life support starts failing, the artificial gravity starts malfunctioning, and strange bursts of energy from the ship's engine causes electronics to stop working. And that's not all: it seems like every possible system that could be acting up is acting up.
In short, Legion World is a mess. And all they know so far is that some of the support staff may be responsible and that they're also possibly possessed by some kind of alien infestation that occasionally makes their eyes flash black.
It's time to get answers -- something that will be difficult with all the threats they're facing on the ship. Not only do the Legionnaires have to survive, the support staff will occasionally need rescue, too.
With the rate that systems are failing, the odds are not in their favor, especially since these malfunctions caused the escape pods to automatically launch without any crew in them. They'll have to work fast to stop the threat before everyone on Legion World dies.

For a moment, he thinks that it is someone else, but no, that voice is definitely him and... it's not like they spoke the same language before. It'd peeved him a bit, to essentially speak and hear languages without truly speaking and hearing them, figuring that a lot of details must get lost in translation that way.
The upside of that irritation is that he realizes fairly quickly what might be going on, now, and brings up a hand to his ear to pull out the earplug and flip it over, trying to see if there is a visible damage. Too bad that he hasn't yet looked into how they function - he needs to do that.
Actually he would go and find a way to figure this out right away, if he had a place to start. Brainiac is obviously preoccupied elsewhere and if the earplugs are malfunctioning, he won't be able to communicate with anyone. And as much as he likes to figure things out for himself, one needs some basic knowledge before figuring out details. And he doesn't have that.
Irritatedly, he holds up the seemingly undamaged earplug to Zuko. "[I assume that what makes those function has been sabotaged or otherwise damaged or turned off.]"

He flailed slightly and let out a little frustrated noise, clenching and unclenching his hands like he was strangling the air. A tiny bit of smoke even poured out of his nostrils.
Okay, okay, getting angry wasn't going to help this situation. He could almost hear Uncle chiding him in the back of his head. As frustrating as it all was (since this made him feel even more out of his element) they already had a plan. The other man had the right idea with thinking they should just look for the strange...things. They could still do that even if they couldn't understand each other.
Now he just had to try to communicate that.
"[Even though we can't understand each other--]" UGH "[--you had the right idea.]"
He pointed to Feanor, then to his own head, as a general gesture of "idea," then just...generally away. Away was where they needed to go to find those...things.
He pointed to his eyes. "[We should still look for them.]"
He pointed away again to indicate they needed to look around.
...and hoped desperately that Feanor understood what he was trying to say because all this flailing and gesturing was making him feel like an idiot.

Later.)
He nods sharply and after a last look at the people in their surroundings who all seem to act what he assumes to be normal, he points into a direction down a corridor. "[That way.]" He'll just start walking, seeing no reason to discuss things when they cannot communicate properly and simply expecting Zuko to follow, because that is what he is used to from his life.
gravity fun times now? =D
One thing was clear, though -- he was definitely used to taking charge. Zuko wondered if he was royalty like himself. Or military. No, it had to be royalty; even a general wouldn't have that kind of presence, like he expected others to fall in perfect lock step without a word.
He also wondered what was up with those strange ears. Was he an 'alien' like many of the people here? Something else?
The two of them stepped into a room that looked almost as if it was filled with writing desks. If Zuko didn't know any better, he'd have thought it was perhaps something like a royal treasury, something administrative. He supposed it made sense that such a massive ship might need such things, especially with all of the staff needing to be paid somehow. With its nearly incomprehensible size, it had to hold almost as many people as a town or a colony.
There were people trying to leave this place, perhaps rushing to battle stations or a safe area but their progress was stopped by the sudden change that happened to the room. All of a sudden Zuko felt a terrible weight bearing down on him, slamming him to the floor hard enough to hurt, hard enough that it was almost difficult to draw breath.
He didn't even have time to yell and the way his lungs were suddenly compressed made it almost impossible to after the strange change in the room started. It felt almost as if his body was too heavy to lift, like each limb weighed a hundred pounds.
Zuko noticed that the workers that were in sight all dropped, too, pressed to the ground as if the invisible weight was bearing down on them as well.
A few of them gestured weakly towards a box on the wall, chattering at each other in their alien tongue. The box looked like a control panel, like something you'd find in the engine room of a Fire Navy ship. It was clearly important. Maybe something in it could fix what was happening to them?
The workers tried to crawl towards it but it seemed they were too weak to make any headway against the invisible force holding them all down.
Sorry for the delay! RL happened big time and cleaning out my inbox took a while.
...Items. He can't move, breathing alone being laborious, but perhaps...
He forces his head up, following the direction of the workers' indicated direction. He can't know what exactly they are meaning to do, but perhaps that will present itself once the box is opened. Even if he continually cannot understand anyone's words - how annoying. First thing after this, and before continuing with anything else, he will study this language. It should not be too difficult, considering that it should be researched well.
He looks over at Zuko, trying to discern if the other legionnaire is preparing another way of action, and around the room to find an icon that should be able to both move over there and then pull a lever, push a switch or button, or what else might need to be done. Something close enough by to touch.
There is something, but much closer to Zuko than himself - a ball-like device with a long, extendible stick on it. Assuming that it chooses rolling as a method of movement, it should reach the box quite easily, and then be able to do something. The issue is that he needs to touch that item first.
"[You. Roll this device towards me.]" He manages to raise a hand enough to point at the thing and locks his piercing eyes on Zuko to indicate that he is talking to him.
No probs!
Funny how this idea of a "legion" got inside your head a bit. It wasn't as if he felt any true loyalty to the rest of them -- not when his friends back home and their cause were so important -- but he still felt inclined to trust that anyone else also wearing the ring at least had their priorities straight.
Maybe that was the point of having a team, of having them swear an oath, of rings signifying what they all were. They didn't need to be unified by loyalty. All they needed was to be united in a dedication to doing what needed to be done, regardless of their individual reasons for doing it.
So he trusted that the pointing meant something, and he trusted that rolling the strange thing towards the man would do something.
It took all of the strength he had to reach it. Anytime he tried to raise himself on his elbows, it felt like his ribcage was being compressed -- so much that the world was going a little black around the edges.
But Zuko reached it and managed to get it moving. It rolled slowly but eventually reached Feanor. Now Zuko could only hope that he had a good idea of what to do with it.

It would. Fëanor was a firm believer of "if you put your mind to something, you can make it" and it was a rather well-known fact that he was very capable and talented.
So there was no hesitation when he reached out to the thing and his power and forced his will upon the item, demanding that it roll over to the box and then use the stick to push or press whatever it could find in there.
A moment later, Zuko could see the thing roll towards the box without Fëanor having more than touched it with his fingertips. Roll over and then get out the stick to open the box, reach into it and push at the levers and buttons inside.
Well. It had just turned the gravitation off completely.
For a moment, as nobody moved, the effect wasn't quite clear, but it was at least much easier to breathe again. Fëanor frowned and told the item to stay put and wait. Something had changed, but what?

Right now he had other things to worry about, because Zuko made a fatal mistake here: shoving himself hard off the ground to get back up to his feet.
He quickly found himself floating right into the air, something that should've been impossible.
People did have a concept of gravity in his world. The Airbenders had, naturally, been the ones to come up with a name for the force that held people to the ground. They'd needed a name for the force they constantly defied and laughed at.
But nobody actually thought it could be overcome, that there'd be a way of turning it on or off.
"How is this even possible?!" Zuko exclaimed because WHAT.
Ugh, asking anyone was pointless. It wasn't like anyone could understand him. He wound up finally drifting up to the ceiling and kicked off it, trying to get back near the floor. He saw that some of the Legion World staff were using handles on the walls or desks that were secured to the floor to move around. They seemed to know what they were doing. Perhaps this wasn't something unusual for them -- a potential threat that was known to them. They seemed trained to deal with it and now that they could move again, they seemed to be working to try to fix it.
Still, if this was possible, it was possibly not the last time they'd have to deal with it. It was something they had to be prepared for, suddenly being pinned down or floating.
For right now, since they could move, Zuko figured they should, and keep trying to see if they could find the strange creatures causing all this.
He pointed to the door.
"We should keep moving." If they kicked off things and pulled their way there, they could still get there. He gestured to the workers they'd just helped to move freely again. "They seem to know how to deal with this."
Hopefully his ally could figure out what he was trying to say.
