Movie Night IV: Movie Harder

It has been, to put none too fine a point on it, a shitty week. Everyone needs a place where they can relax and get their minds off what's happened; to that end, Wash figures it's about time for another movie night, and goes for a comedy this time. Sure, Clue is technically a murder mystery with a slow build, but he's pretty sure people will enjoy it as long as he's up front about it.

There's tables full of snacks and drinks set up, per usual. Extra blankets are piled on the arms and backs of chairs and sofas, because blankets make things better and therefore need to be available. There's a sign outside the door with the movie's title, MPAA rating, and a brief summary, along with a note at the bottom: Movie night is neutral territory. Might as well make it known up front.

"You could take the blankets with you?" Pidge offers. "You could get your own snacks and save the rest of us from any gas attacks in those trenches."

"Besides, how can you trust me not to come back with pineapple pizza?"

"But I will never achieve this level of cozy again. This is a frail perfection that would be irreparably shattered if I were to get up, a transient happiness that, once lost, will never be found again."

Also, he just doesn't wanna get up.

Tipping his head back to give Pidge the most pitiful look possible, he adds, "I can take the risk of fruit pizza if it means preserving this delicate setup."

"And arguing with me isn't already doing enough to shatter it?"

She feels like seeing how far she can push this. "I mean, I think happiness fields are mobile. Besides besides, what do you plan to do if you want more snacks later? Bug me again?"

[turntex]

"Okay, first of all, this isn't arguing. This is persuading. And second, nah, speaking is a free action and has no effect on my level of cozy. Hell, it is an improvment if anything. I find the sound of my own voice very soothing."

(That's honestly a pretty sad fact at the core of it -- a kid who is so used to filling the tense silences of his home growing up by talking out loud to himself -- but it will doubtlessly sound like he's just a self-absorbed asshole. Oh well.)

"i can bug whoever happens to be standing and going in that general direction," Dave adds, matter-of-factly. "Right now, that just happens to be you."

It does indeed sound like he's a self-absorbed asshole, and if there's anything more to it behind that, she doesn't pick up on it.

"So I can put you down for a big plate of plain tortilla chips and water?"
