[closed to Victor] Kentucky-fried Christmas
Who| Closed to Victor
What| Yuuri actually has a date for Christmas for once
Where| Victor and Yuuri's suite
When| After Valor's Day
Warnings/Notes| N/A
Yuuri had ushered Victor out of the little kitchen in their shared suite for about an hour or so. When Victor tried to help with the cooking, he'd smacked him with a dish towel, and chased him out like a mother might chase a child away from a cookie jar.
("No no no! Out!")
Victor had given him a puppy, at a time he really needed something solid and real to hold onto. It was already nice having Makkachin around, but he and Victor only slept in the same bed on the nights that Victor sneaked in to cuddle. On the nights they slept apart, Makkachin usually alternated nights sleeping with either of them. That meant sometimes Yuuri slept both Victor-less and dog-less.
Having his own adorable little puppy to cuddle at night was just...reassuring. Phi-chan was turning out to be very affectionate and fairly easy to train.
That meant, since he'd messed up by not getting Victor a Valor's Day present, he had to make sure the Christmas Eve he was giving him was perfect. (Even though it wasn't actually Christmas Eve).
Cooking it all had been the easy part. His parents had never ordered out for fried chicken around Christmas, since they knew how to cook so well. Back when he'd still lived at home he'd helped out his parents in the kitchen often enough to remember the basic recipe.
The hardest part was getting the chicken in the first place. It wasn't exactly like meat was 100% illegal in this universe, but people eating it was so rare that it was hard to find. You had to look for specialty stores and slightly-shady vendors. What he found didn't even seem to be real chicken, more like some kind of similar bird meat but it was at least close enough.
Finding buttermilk to make it American style was downright impossible, but that, he was at least used to. He managed to find somewhere to buy normal milk (also a specialty item) and just did what his mother always used to do and mixed it with lemon juice to make something close to buttermilk.
Making the cake had been a lot harder. Baking wasn't the same as cooking and he hadn't done that much of it. It came out a little lopsided but still nice and fluffy, and he'd made something sort of like whipped cream. (It was the best he could do). And the future still had strawberries.
When it was all cooked and on the plates, and he'd washed up, he peeked his head out into the living room.
"Now you can come in."
He felt strange after doing all this. Cooking for Victor was very...domestic. But it was a good strange, a little burst of jittery warmth in his chest. This was the first time he ever had someone to be with during this time of year. It felt...mildly terrifying. But also good.
He was blushing furiously as he waited for Victor to walk in.

...And then Phi-chan had woken up and decided to stand on Victor's bladder, but at least that meant that Victor was awake and presentable when Yuuri announced he was welcome in the kitchen again.
"It smells amazing, Yuuri," he cooed as he entered the kitchen, unable to repress the mischievous tilt to his smile when he found Yuuri was blushing like Victor had just waltzed into the room naked and covered in champagne.

"It's not actually chicken. Meat isn't illegal or anything but it's really hard to find because it's not popular to eat it. It's only sort-of chicken."
Wait, that sounded horrible. He turned and waved his hands.
"That doesn't mean it's anything bad or gross! Just...some kind of alien bird that tastes like chicken. Outer space chicken."
He was starting to understand why everyone seemed to call things "Space [BLANK]" so much.

"How exciting!" he said, bringing Yuuri's left hand to his mouth and pressing a kiss to the knuckles. "I'm sure it will be delicious. Shall I set the table?"
no subject
"This also isn't alcohol."
Then he looked amused, like he was biting back a laugh.
He pointed to the cake. "And that's not real whipped cream." It was made with some kind of soy...stuff that'd been very difficult to whip. "And those aren't strawberries. They're called snozzberries."
He pointed to himself and said dryly, "And I'm just a hologram. Probably."
no subject
"So I guess you're not really wearing this either, hm?" he asks, releasing the sleeve again with a smile. He's trying not to come on too strong, but Yuuri had started it with the hologram joke. And Victor had gone for his shirt instead of his pants, even though that belt loop is just a perfect fingerhold. Still, a subject change seems in order, to prevent undue flustering on Yuuri's part.
"I'm sure I'll enjoy it all anyway," he says, which would have been a subject change had he not still been thinking about what's under Yuuri's shirt. He reminds himself to be good, that just because this is a date night doesn't mean he can just let himself be carried away by his own brain. "I'll feed the dogs, head off a round of shameless begging tonight."
