This was certainly the most interesting that had happened to Azula for a long, long time. And naturally, she meant to make the most of it.

She looked around. She was in some sort of barracks, she'd heard them called crew quarters. While each person had a fair amount of space to themselves, more than any soldier in the Fire Nation, it was not what Azula was used to.

But still better than where she'd been before.

Of course, where she was didn't exactly matter. Azula knew to succeed her, she would have to have allies. Or at least people who thought she considered them allies. Which meant she had to leave this room and go out there.

She headed to the door, then paused. It had been so long since she was last on the outside. For a moment, she wondered if she could do it. It had been a long year in that facility and she didn't want to go back.

"I'm being ridiculous," she told herself. "I am the rightful leader of the Fire Nation and the most powerful firebender in the world. I'll have this Legion bowing before in no time."

And so she headed out, head held high, looking for people who would be useful to her.

"Yeah, well, in the civilized galaxy we don't just assume you can claim something by peeing on it."

Did he really just compare imperial expansion to dogs marking their territory? Azula is sure he did. "Well, if you defeated then clearly they weren't such a powerful nation in the first place."

Or they cheated. Like Zuko in their Agni Kai.

He absolutely did.

And he's absolutely not sure whether to take that as more of a slam on the Chitauri or on him. "I can't tell if you're insulting them or me."

[blue_flame]

Azula shrugs, not feeling like explaining it to him. "So ... is there anything interesting around here I should know about? I'm still learning the lay of the land, so to speak."

"Depends on the level of technology you're used to? I mean, we've got people who know computers and then we've got people who are amazed by washing machines."

[blue_flame]

Azula catches herself just in time before she asked what a washing machine was. She can figure that out later.

"My world is ... very different in that respect," she admits. "Though the Fire Nation was, naturally, the most evolved country when it came to technology. Fire does make an excellent power source."

"Fire, huh? So you guys don't use electricity yet?"

Or maybe this was more like a magical thing. Fire Nation, that sounded hilariously fantasy-novel, to his ear.

"No, I suppose we don't." Azula didn't like where this conversation was going. She did not want to give the impression that she came from some backwater, uncivilized place. "Perhaps with our firebending abilities, we don't need such things."

Like how the wizards in Harry Potter don't use cell phones. Okay.

"The native Legionnaires are pretty good about helping people get the hang of the stuff they've never seen, anyway."

[blue_flame]

"Then I'm sure I'll figure anything out if it comes up." She would have to start working on that soon, because who knows what sort of interesting and useful technology might exist in this world. It would be foolish not to get accustom to everything at her disposal.
