MedBay is a lot busier than usual. At least they're prepared, to an extent; the last thing anyone wants is for half the Legion to return from what should have been a diplomatic mission with a variety of injuries ranging from minor to debilitating, but they'll handle it. That's what they're here for.

And, after they've managed to get everyone stabilized, they'll even allow visitors. Come see how your friends are doing.

Pidge really needs to bring the cryo-pod tech from the Castle of Lions, because Wash's voice doesn't sound quite...right on whatever meds they've got him.

She got out of that fight relatively unscathed, all things considered. A few bandaged cuts and salved scrapes, a lungful of dust, a ringing in her ear that took a few hours to go away. Nothing compared to what Wash got.

"Well...at least you didn't die," says Pidge, and she means it.

Wash gives Pidge a smile when she walks in. Good. She made it, and it looks like she's not badly hurt. "Yeah. Turns out I'm really good at almost dying and I suck at actual dying." He shrugs. He's been almost dying for years - he would have had to get good at it eventually.

It occurs to him, slowly, that he doesn't actually know who made it back, or whether any of the civilians survived, or...anything. Huh. "Did everyone make it back?"

"Wow, you're really good at this reassurance thing." Wash is...probably not going to pick up on her sarcasm if he's out of it as he seems. She pulls up a chair by his bedside.

"Anyway, yeah, everyone's alive and accounted for." She can...probably leave the 'there's a mole' thing for when he's better able to handle it. "Not for lack of trying. What happened to you?"

"That's great, coming from the person who opened with, 'at least you didn't die.'" Wash may be out of it, but he's not far enough gone to miss sarcasm that blatant.

He does relax at the news that everyone came out intact, at least. That's good. "I got in a fight with Validus. I don't recommend it."

"There you go, that's better." What a relief it is to hear him grouse.

While Wash relaxes, Pidge tenses. "What?! Tell me you didn't try to take him down alone."

For a moment, Wash just stares at her. What kind of idiot does she think he is? "No," he finally answers. "I was with Master Chief. The Abominable Snowman came after us."

She thinks he's the kind of idiot who might get attacked by Validus and might not be able get away. This is concern here on her face.

"Oh right, you only got mangled instead of killed. What was I thinking?"

Pidge may have some form of concern here, but it's definitely not processing. Wash continues to stare. "Jesus, I'm sorry I answered your question."

"No, it's not-!"

Actually, what even is it? This is turning into a fight and that's not at all what she wanted. She takes a deep breath, reflecting that this has been a REALLY rough day for everyone.

"I'm...sorry. I don't even know why we're fighting."

"Neither do I," Wash says candidly, after taking a moment to attempt to process this brand new conversational turn. "This whole conversation's been pretty weird."

"Yeah, it has. And I really did just want to make sure you were OK...Maybe I should have waited until you were off the painkillers?"

And until she'd rested up a little more, when her mind was only running a thousand miles a minute instead of a hundred. Nothing she could do about it now, but pull things out of the hole.

"I'll heal." Wash shrugs, something he wouldn't be doing if he weren't on said painkillers. "And I'm okay, just..." He waves his hand a bit. "...fuzzy. What about you? How are you holding up?" It was pretty hellish out there, and despite whatever combat experience she might have, Pidge is still young.

"I'm fine. Nothing some salve and bandaids can't fix." And for what it's worth, she does mean it. Being ambushed in the middle of a ceremony like that is just a possibility she'll have to get used to, right? On the other hand, that fight went...strangely.

"Actually, there was someone I wanted to ask you about. I teamed up with a guy for part of the fighting but I didn't catch his name and his armor looked kind of like the kind you wear. Except pink. Does that sound familiar?"

"If you're sure." He gives her the closest thing to a searching look that he can do right now, what with being only partially cogent thanks to painkillers.

He then blinks for a moment or two at that description. Welp. People were going to meet him eventually. "Finicky, unintentional innuendo that might not be unintentional every time he opens his mouth, incredible throwing arm? Yeah, that's Donut. He's...on Grif's team." Judge as you will.

"I'm sure." Oh good, he latched onto the Donut part and not the 'pressing her for details' part. He does not need to know she was tinkering with an alien bomb in the middle of a battlefield.

"So he's always like that? Great. Well, at least he's a good shot."

"Uh-huh." He doesn't quite buy that she's completely fine, but the conversation has moved on.

"Pretty much, yeah. But if you give him grenades he becomes the most dangerous person on the battlefield."
