softly, with grace [open]
Who| Rebecca & OPEN
What| After adjusting to culture shock, Rebecca is released to the world at large! Surprise, she's still overwhelmed.
Where| Around the tower!
When| Her first day or thereabouts, sometime after TTHS!
Warnings/Notes| None!
[Crew Quarters, generally around]
It’s just her luck to finish fighting one dragon and end up in some bizarre otherworld before she’s even made it back to the ship home.
...Actually, it isn’t, she thinks to herself. Normally her luck is pretty good, and she can’t imagine what she’s done in her life to deserve waking up in a death void and then finding herself surrounded by steel magic. But she’s over it! She’s definitely over it. It's been enough time that she's accepted this, and how could she not? She has people to help...people who aren't even here, but even people who are here. Rebecca never thought her soldier life would bring her to this point, but...you don't need a reason to help people, not when she's in such a position to do so. Becoming a Legionnaire had been the right thing to do, she's sure of it.
She’s inside the ship (or miniature planet, whatever, adjusting), she has her room and everything. Crew quarters aren’t much different than a tent (, she lies to herself)...and Legionnaires aren’t much different than fellow soldiers, and...
No, no, it’s all completely different, but she's going to get used to it! Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad. Well, it's not good, she'll just figure it out! She settles on leaving her bow and arrow in her room and heading out on a walk to familiarize herself with everything. If anyone so much at looks at her for more than a half-second, she’ll greet them with a slightly hesitant, but still smiley:
"Excuse me...if you’re free, might I have a moment of your time?"
[Mess Hall]
The first thing Rebecca does in this new place is load up her tray with vegetables that look familiar to the ones she knew from back home. Well, or the ones that looked mostly similar. She’s not about to take her chances on that melon(?) with polka dots or the fruit she’d assumed was an orange until someone cut into it and revealed it was blue inside. What a ...wonderful place.
She’s ready to make her way to a seat, admiring how quiet the mess hall seems to be at this hour, when she notices that the ground is coated in some sort of slimy gelatin paste that someone had spilled previously. Just from looking at it, she knows it’s going to make a gross mess if she slips in it...and it’s too late to stop walking, her eyes going wide as she realizes she’s about to walk right into mess she’ll have to clean off of herself. Eyes on the wall, she just thinks at the last millisecond that she needs to get away, and—just like that, she vanishes in a flash of flame that disappears as quickly as it came.
The new problem is that she finishes putting her foot down as soon as she reappears, and the only thing in front of her is a wall. She immediately walks into it, hitting her head, and stumbles back. To everyone else, it probably looks like she burst into flame and then walked into a wall, but there was a very unfortunate chain of events there, and she looks mortified. The tray of vegetables she'd been holding onto just drops onto the ground with a clatter, and she hurriedly scoops them back on. Rebecca miraculously manages to say a few words before taking the quickest exit—hopefully someone will come and say something before she walks out, everything is the worst.
"Oh...oh, you idiot!"
Either way, she still needs to eat, and later she can be found standing next to a vending machine and eating whatever’s available inside of it. She looks exhausted and in need of a proper meal, but she will persevere. She can't afford not to.

There's a huge goofy wink there for emphasis, obviously.
"It's like, the best thing to eat here, so you probably want to enjoy it. Right?" And look, she has her own, and they can definitely eat together. Though, that's implied. For now.
no subject
"No, I don't think this is mine...oh. Aha, I see what you mean."
She smiles apologetically and takes the cup, though she doesn't do anything other than hold it in her hands. Her eyebrow lifts as she looks down at it.
"Oh! It's cold!" She shifts her hands around the cup, looking both surprised and a little worried. "I don't think I've ever had anything like this before. What is it?"
no subject
"Try it! I promise you'll like it."
no subject
She tilts the cup towards her own mouth, eating only a little. Some of it smears around her mouth before she pulls it away, eyes wide.
"It's sweet, too! Almost...fruity? I've never had anything like this before."
no subject
Mabel's definitely not!
"It's a little better back where I'm from, because we had milk. But this is still the best thing they have here!" Mabel slurps up the rest of her ice cream at an inhuman speed before continuing. "You're new here too, aren't you? What kind of place did you come from?" Fingers crossed it's a really cool and fashionable place so she has a new friend to talk about those kinds of things with.
no subject
She still doesn't quite grasp the concept of veganism given that she comes from an era that's more livestock than anything else, but she will do her best to learn. It's not like she has a choice.
Rebecca takes another bite of her cream, then realizes she doesn't have a towel to wipe with...oh, well, she'll use the back of her hand for now.
"That's right. I've been here for a week, but this is my first time to the Ship. They had a lot to explain to me about the future in the hospital." She takes another drink before continuing. "Well, you know...we don't have this where I come from. Any of this. The biggest thing I'd seen until now was a castle."
no subject
"Oh, and what about unicorns? You probably had nice ones, right?" Mabel goes to take another bite of ice cream, realizes she already finished it, and frowns down into the cup.
"I met a unicorn once, but it was kiiiiind of a jerk. I bet back when there was castles and stuff they were probably better, right?"
no subject
She does her best not to blink. Her eye twitches a little as she does her best to ensure that Mabel doesn't get the wrong idea here. Her? A princess? She's flattered anyone would think so, but it's the farthest thing from the truth.
"I can't say I've ever met a unicorn," Rebecca adds as she holds out her cup if Mabel would like to have some of hers. "But I've met some pegasi! They're not common in Pherae, but the pegasus knights of Ilia are renowned for them."
no subject
"Pegasi? You mean pretty and fancy horses with wings right?!" She really looks like she might start jumping up and down. "I always knew something better would happen to make up for unicorns... I just didn't know when."
no subject
She scratches her cheek, finding Mabel's excitement pretty warming. What else can she say about them.
"The Pegasus Knights I know...their names are Florina, Farina, and Fiora. They're all sisters! And they're very knightly. Why, once I saw Lord Marcus racing towards the enemy, but all three of them beat him there and attacked at once. It was a sight to behold! I've never seen such teamwork."
no subject
"Can I go home with you after we save the universe? I'll change my name to fit in so I can ride one too! Fable! See? Perfect!"
no subject
Her world's at war, though. Rebecca's smile slowly turns into a small frown as she tries to figure out the best way to say this.
...
Actually, she can ignore it altogether.
"We? You mean...you're a Legionnaire, too? I wasn't sure at first, but that confirms it, right?"
no subject
"I guess super heroes aren't normally as cute as we are, riiight?"
no subject
no subject
"How do you feel about sleepovers and talking about boys?"
no subject
no subject
"I'm Mabel Pines! And I am a sleepover expert!"
no subject
no subject
"I bet we will! As soon as you want to have a sleepover, you should come on over! We can practice makeovers on my brother. And we can practice our powers on him too. He'd like that." More like he might tolerate it depending on how happy he is that his sister is here.
no subject
"Ah, Mabel? You have a brother, too? And he's here? You're right, I'd really like to meet him, too." Even if it's not her family, seeing some family would feel nice.
no subject
"We share a room too, so you can come visit us any time!" Which is probably actually true, since Dipper would love having a pretty girl he isn't related to stop by.
no subject
It's more a tease, but whether Mabel is or isn't, she has a feeling she'll enjoy the assumption either way.
"Alright! I'll be sure to do just that, Mabel. Once I settle in a bit more, I'll come find you, alright?"
no subject
She pulls out her omnicom and begins typing away on it.
"I'm gonna send you our room number, ok? Then you can stop by whenever!"
no subject
"Oh, it was just a guess." She doesn't pull out her own omnicom, she'll practice more with it later. "I mean, you're so mature and you have good taste, so..it was obvious, really!"
