"I do hate most of the people I have to interact with," Saralegui correctly smoothly, gaze returning to his drink now that the pretty light show was over. "Most people in power are selfish and short-minded. They don't care about anything beyond their own desires and their own lifespans. Am I supposed to cede my own position and let people like that control everything just so I don't have to deal with them?"

And if there was any reason to hate himself, it had nothing to do with his involvement in politics. Or rather, it was more due to a problematic personality, regardless of whether that helped him in the political world. Besides, he was trying to do something good these days. He could at least give himself that much credit.
