The Chief doesn't spend a lot of time in his quarters, but it's a quiet space with walls. Sometimes, that's what he needs to sit down and focus on something. He's been trying to take in more UP history. Not his best subject (things tend to blur together for him around major conflicts), but it's important, so he's trying.

Part of the reason for the quiet is he has very good hearing and a lifetime of needing to be alert to small sounds.
